<h3></h3>Adopt don’t shop EU&nbsp;is a project focused in rehoming neglected animals across European countries.By helping local shelters and animal rescues we gather different welfare organisations in one website. Dogs, cats and other animals from these shelters require even more visibility today: the pet industry is focused on profit and does not care about these animals at all. Breeders looks after fashionable breeds and selling puppies, when they’re not busy on excessive ethology and working methods. Demand of purebred pups is constantly rising: dogs are officially the new partner in crime of western families. Was this what we aimed twenty years ago? when promoting responsbile adoptions and mass sterilisations, were trying to make people turn the way they had been treating dogs in the last fifty years. No. We didn’t want the rising of medium welfare and healty status for some dogs ending up in milions of purebred dogs spreaded everywhere, bought or taken from silly people following the rules of social media and television system. Hundreds of thousands of unwanted dogs follow: most of them end up in some cages, but many other end on the streets, where they might not be used to. The most affected areas are the countries across Mediterranean Sea (Cyprus, Spain, Greece and South of Italy) and East Europe (Romania, Bulgaria) above all.We are people from different countries, someone helps when he can in local kennel, other help as they can,&nbsp; or travels as international volunteers or flight/ship volunteers, some others run a shelter privately.We don’t make it for profit. Any donations from adoptions are used for other animals. Donations coming from merchandise, from events fundraisings or crowfundings are used to pay all the activities related, vets, transports and food.We do it just for the animals we try to save. It’s their EGO they’re gratifying.When you adopt, you save a loving animal by making them part of your family and open up shelter space for another animal who might desperately need it. The number of euthanized animals (where is permitted by the law) could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them. Every year too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a pet. If you buy a dog or a cat from a pet store, online shop or street market, you’re probably getting&nbsp; a dog from a puppy mill. Puppy mills are factory style breeding facilities that put profit above the welfare of dogs. Animals from puppy mills are housed in shockingly poor conditions with improper medical care, and are often sick and behaviorally troubled as a result. The moms of these puppies are kept in cages to be bred over and over for years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever joining a family. And after they’re no longer profitable, breeding dogs are simply discarded, either killed, sold, exchanged or euthanized. In Europe they’re pretty much concentrated in Eastern countries: Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Cyprus, Greece, Serbia, Italy and Spain. Puppy mills continue to stay in business through deceptive tactics: their customers are unsuspecting consumers who shop in pet stores, over internet or through classified ads. They continue to operate until people stop supporting them.
